The role of the Board Secretary is a vital part of ensuring the board runs smoothly, whether this involves planning for meetings, ensuring information is translated effectively to and from the board, supporting the chair, reviewing the board’s effectiveness, record keeping, managing compliance obligations and a lot more.
This one day CPD certified course will ensure you understand the key responsibilities and what is expected of the board secretary. You will come away from this course with an understanding of the skills and characteristics that the exceptional Board Secretary possesses, and how he or she can contribute to improving the effectiveness of the Board. This course would be highly useful for Board Secretaries or Managers, for whom providing board secretarial services is part of their role, as well as the Chairperson and Board members of private, public and non-profit entities who want to better understand the role of the Secretary and how the Secretary can enhance the performance of the Board. On completion you will receive your CMG MasterClass Certificate of Attendance as well as your CPD Certificate containing 5 Structured CPD Points. Please note certificates are issued only at the close of the training course to participants who complete the full 5 hours.
Gerry Egan – Governance Ireland
Gerry Egan is an associate consultant with Governance Ireland, a firm specialising in corporate governance advisory services for organisations across all sectors. He is an experienced Executive and Company Secretary with over 20 years’ experience as a Chairman, Director and Secretary in a range of commercial, public sector and non-profit settings. As a consultant and trainer he advises boards and executive teams on corporate governance, strategy development, strategic communications and GDPR implementation. He holds an M. Sc(Mgmt.) from Trinity College and is a Chartered Director of the Institute of Directors.
CMG Professional Training courses take place at our state-of-the-art training facility in the Apex Business Centre situated in the Beacon Quarter of Sandyford Industrial Estate, Dublin 18. The CMG Training Centre is accessible by the Luas, (Sandyford line, Stillorgan stop) several bus options and is close to the M50. There are a number of car parks within a three minute walk as well as a range of coffee shops including Starbucks as well as shops and restaurants nearby.
In order to maximize the learning experience, interaction and discussion, numbers are limited per course. A short course assessment may be required before completion.

This course costs €395 (early-bird) NORMAL RATE €495, and includes course documentation and light refreshments. While the course fee does not include lunch, we do provide freshly made sandwiches, nespresso coffee and a range of teas and fresh juice for those who require a light lunch. Alternatively you can avail of the local food stores and coffee shops opposite the training centre for hot food or alternative lunch options.
