Simple yet effective techniques to improve readability, structure, layout and writing style

This training day is aimed at professionals in business who want to improve their business communication when it comes to business documents, report writing, appraisals and even business emails.
At the end of the course, attendees will be able to plan, design and structure business documents in a more effective manner, as well as gaining a better understanding of the most appropriate layout and language. We will show you how to adopt a clear and concise writing style, and how to present information in a more reader-friendly format. - Business writing – The “ABC” of all good business writing: Accuracy, brevity and clarity
- What is business language?
- Current thinking on business grammar; How to avoid grammatical errors;
- Jargon, phrases and clichés – should these be avoided?
- Commonly confused words
- Constructing clear sentences and paragraphs with appropriate punctuation
- Create a structure, flow and rhythm
- Knowing the reader – Tailoring your message to the reader’s needs – Is the reader clear as to why we are in contact
- How to professionally deal with complaints and best wording to handle these situations
- Is my writing reader-friendly?
- Will punchy openings gain a better response? – learn powerful opening statements
- Do positive or compelling endings gain results? – Effective closing statements for your documents and emails
- Common barriers most professionals face when writing
- Identify the most common errors in business writing
- The importance of proofreading and having a final check list
This programme will be beneficial to all professionals who are looking to enhance their business communications and writing skills.
On completion, you will receive your CMG MasterClass Certificate of Attendance as well as your CPD Certificate containing 5 Structured CPD Hours. Please note certificates are issued only at the close of the training course to participants who complete the full five hours.

Brendan Barrett has had a 40-year career in Media and Business Communications.
He has worked in the Irish Times and was a founding Director of Dublin’s first free newspaper group, Southside and Northside. He held various senior roles including Managing Editor.
He was a Director of The Sunday Tribune.
Brendan has delivered training in Writing Skills in leading Irish and international companies. He has developed a reputation for his training style that helps create change on the part of attendees.
As well as running his own training business, Brendan lectures extensively on Communications and Media.
CMG Professional Training courses take place at our state-of-the-art training facility in the Apex Building situated in the Beacon Quarter of Sandyford Industrial Estate, Dublin 18. The CMG Training Centre is accessible by the Luas, (Sandyford line, Stillorgan stop – 6 mins walk) several bus options (the number 11 travels from O Connell street Dublin and stops directly outside the training centre) and we are situated very close to the M50 at the Beacon Hospital corner. There are several car parks within a three minute walk from the training centre with very competitive ‘all day’ parking rates and we have a range of coffee shops (including Starbucks) as well as shops and restaurants nearby.
