Course Description

This one day course will cover the essential rules on moving goods and services across international boundaries, post-Brexit. We will discuss the new implications for sellers and traders, will clarify important VAT and customs duties issues, where the exceptions lie, and how to complete the VAT return. We will look at new critical areas such as postponed VAT accounting and where it applies, trading under the new EU e-commerce directive, and important administrative requirements you need to be aware of.

If you are unsure of your obligations regarding trading, VAT and customs post-Brexit, this course can prove invaluable. You will gain insights from an experienced professional, get the chance to ask questions specific to your business, and will receive a full course pack to refer back to.

  • Basic vocabulary check of Customs Duties and VAT terms used in the course
  • Overview of Brexit and how that affects UK and EU traders
  • Broad implications for UK sellers into the EU and vice versa
  • Origin of goods issues – a vital part of the post-Brexit world for Customs Duties
  • Online B2C sales to EU consumers – the Import One Stop Shop (IOSS)
  • The general place of supply rules for services – B2B and B2C
  • Other VAT and Customs Duties issues, including cross-border services and practical aspects of the Northern Ireland Protocol.
  • Exporting goods - zero rating, the time of supply, evidence
  • Importing goods - import VAT, postponed VAT accounting, duty deferment accounts, relief schemes
  • Exceptions to the general service rules – including land, digital supplies, events & admission

Who Should Attend

This course will be of benefit to accountants and other professionals who must deal with, or advise on, VAT aspects of cross-border transactions. Since the UK has left the EU, they will also need to recognise that Customs Duties are much more important, so they will also benefit from an update on Customs Duties and how they interact with VAT.

Certification

On completion of this one-day training course, you will receive your Certificate of Attendance. Please note certificates are issued at the close of the training course to participants on completion of the course. Please check directly with your association or awarding body to see how many points they will award.

Cost
