About this Conference

This year's conference will provide guidance on flood management in Ireland from a number of different angles. We will examine key challenges over the past 12 months, through some practical and interesting case studies. We will look at innovations in flood modelling and forecasting, including early warning systems, and we will discuss common misconceptions regarding multi-functional SuDS in Dublin, and practical guidance on what you should consider when designing. We will also look at how to address flood risk management, river restoration and the water framework agenda in the face of climate change.

This is a must-attend event for anyone involved in flood management, particularly engineers, consultants, civil contractors, local authorities, planners, surveyors, semi state bodies to name a few.

This Conference is a unique live virtual event from our own custom-built CMG Studios. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with attendees praising the additional interactive elements, as well as increased Q&A opportunities throughout the day, giving you more opportunity to gain real practical insights on the key issues that are important to you.

Pilot Natural Flood Management measures in Inishowen,Co. Donegal: Learnings and Outcomes from planning to construction

  • An overview of the scoping and preparation for the project over a three-year period (2018-2020). Community awareness, opportunity mapping with Trinity College and funding arrangements
  • Construction of NFM measures – several types of leaky dams installed (approx. 60 dams) (log, boarded, natural dams) and check dams. Construction techniques, materials and erosion control
  • Outcomes – consultation with community, permissions and consent in an Irish context, management protocols and data gathering.
  • Engaging community in the process, obstacles, and challenges.

Health and Wellbeing Impacts of Flood risk adaptation

  • Adaptation actions and processes - negative impacts on health and wellbeing that impact community resilience
  • Findings from recent literature review on the impacts of flood risk adaptation on health and wellbeing taking a look at three broad approaches of engineering, nature-based approaches and relocation.
  • Recent Irish case studies on coastal flooding/erosion and ongoing international work as part of a Welcome Trust funded project to illustrate how adaptation processes and decisions can have a lasting impact on individual and community health and wellbeing.
