Course Description

With a rise in numbers of healthcare workers reporting attacks and confrontation by patients this course has never been more important. A challenging and often contentious issue in Ireland's healthcare sector is the issue of control and restraint of patients. Frequently, the appropriate use of control or restraint is necessary, be that for the patient’s safety, staff or family.

The issues surrounding control and restraint can be fraught with legal implications, legislative compliance failures and professionals in the care environment need to be aware of these challenges and how to manage them.

Questions to be answered include:

  •       What constitutes inappropriate /abusive use of control / restraint?
  •       Distinctions between restraint, battery and negligence
  •       Practical guidance on documenting decisions taken to apply control and/or restraint
  •       Litigation, investigation and potential civil claims
  •       Minimising exposure to claims, case law and overview
  •       Criminal liability and the use of restraint

Certification

On completion of this one-day training course, you will receive your Certificate of Attendance. Please note certificates are issued at the close of the training course to participants on completion of the course. Cost
