Course Description

The new Working from Home (Covid-19) Bill is to be introduced in the coming months, which will give all workers “the right to switch off” and to provide employees with suitable equipment and payment for the costs of working from home. It will require employers to inform employees of their policy on out of hours communications and protects employees from punishment for failing to respond to communications. The Bill also requires an employer to pay employees for suitable work equipment and pay them for the costs of working from home including extra utility costs such as electricity, home heating and broadband.

This course will cover what changes have been made to the Terms of Employment Act 1994, Organisation of Working Time Act 1997 and Application of Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 to certain employees working temporarily from home and how it impacts employment contracts going forward. It will cover what your new legal obligations are regarding payment, disciplinary actions and supplying suitable working equipment to employees working remotely.

• The right to disconnect and its interaction with the Organisation of Working Time Act 1997

• Planning for expenses and roll-out of modified payments

• Autonomy, supervision and monitoring - considering the case law on privacy

• How to develop an organisational e-working policy
