Administrative law is the principles which seek to ensure that public bodies act in a way which is legal, reasonable, and fair. It provides a way to challenge maladministration or the misuse or abuse of power by a public body.
This course has been developed for civil servants and staff working in public sector agencies, offices and local authorities. The course will introduce participants to the core principles and legal rules that govern judicial review and the legal process involved in administrative law. It will also examine specific instances in which judicial review arises, with an emphasis on how litigation can be avoided.
• Introduction to Judicial Review and the Courts role as a 'watch dog'
• Locus standi and 'public' requirement / the Geoghegan principles
• Overview of judicial review litigation:
o Leave stage,
o Statement of grounds/ statement of opposition
• Core principles:
o Fair procedures,
o Obligation to give reasons,
o Bias & prejudgment,
o Legitimate expectation.
• Case studies and group discussion based on concluded JR decisions.

On completion of this one-day training course, you will receive your Certificate of Attendance. Please note certificates are issued at the close of the training course to participants on completion of the course.
