This one-day course takes a look at the advanced features of Microsoft Excel and will focus on what is good and bad design. We will also look at the type of structure that works with a PivotTable as opposed to the type of structure that works with a VLOOKUP.
Attendees will learn how to create V & H Lookups, utilising Drop-down lists and Named Ranges; how to structure Left Lookups using a combination of the Index and Match functions to extract information from a list; How to create PivotTables to facilitate the professional organisation, display and charting of data.

Advanced Excel is used to analyse, summarise and interrogate large datasets, supporting reporting, forecasting and decision-making across business functions.
PivotTables are a feature that allows users to summarise and reorganise data dynamically, making it easier to identify trends, totals and comparisons within large spreadsheets.
VLOOKUP is a function used to retrieve related information from tables based on matching values, commonly used in reporting, reconciliation and data validation tasks.
Errors often arise due to formula logic, data structure issues or inconsistent source data, particularly when spreadsheets scale beyond basic use.
This course focuses on higher-level Excel tools such as PivotTables and lookup functions in a business reporting and analysis context.
